The Parent

The parent represents the individual who puts in the application on behalf of the prospective student. After the student has been offered a placement with Ripples Tutorials, the parent continues their responsibility by overseeing the academic progress of the pupil. It is crucial that this individual should be an adult and also be in the position of settling tuition fees. Other responsibilities are as follows:
Ensure that student participates in periodic tests.
Monitor the progress of the student through the Parental Update Button.

Requirements

For a successful tuition, the parent needs to consider the following before putting in an application.

Desktop, laptop and tablets PCs
Tuition is to be electronically assessed thereby making this a must. Desktops are stationary and superb for home-based students while laptops and tablet PCs provide excellent mobility for students that are constantly on the move. A minimum of two days are to be set aside for tuition on the internet. Each teaching session should last for about two hours.
Access to a printer and a scanner
Printers and scanners are meant only for assignments that need to be handwritten. Assignment Type C fall into this category and their purpose is to perfect the student?s presentation.
Internet Connection
An uninterrupted internet is essential and should not be compromised as it is vital that students have the ability to download previous tuition for revision purposes.

Willingness
Be prepared to take the bull by the horn. Topics may appear very scary, but a closer look will reveal the secret to its solution. Be assured, you will certainly emerge as one of the best, for Ripples will walk hand-in-hand to bring out the best in you.

PowerPoint Tuition
PowerPoint tuition is voice accompanied which gives an in-depth detail of the subject being taught. Its target is to present the same tuition offered in video tuition in a different format in order to facilitate quick assimilation.
PDF Assignments
PDF Assignments can also be referred to as Assignment Type C. They are to be downloaded and printed. Answers are to be hand-written, scanned and uploaded. Handwriting of students will be observed at this stage in order to help improvement.

Parental Update
This gives parents full update and access to the progress of student. It covers:
Grades/marks obtained in assignments and periodic tests.
Gives reports on day-to-day revision carried out by the student.
It reveals the strengths and weaknesses of students. This helps prepare towards school assessments and periodic test.
Periodic Test
The periodic test takes place every five weeks. Its purpose is to assess the knowledge of the student based on all that has been taught. The first Periodic Test covers all that has been taught within the initial 5 weeks of tuition. The second test takes place in another 5 weeks which combines tuition for 10 weeks. This means at the beginning of every 5th week, Periodic Test taken covers all previously taught topics. Pass Mark is 80%, this will determine whether a student will remain or be advised to step down.
